GEOGRAPHY LESSON PLAN - DIFFERENT TYPES OF MAPS

MATERIALS: Approved Text, Atlases, journals, globe, and colored pencils.

Standard#: Social Studies Concepts and Skills

Activator – List 8 things you know about maps and globes

Objective: Students will be able to identify the different types and uses of maps.

Teacher Directed Activity:

Describe the features of physical, population, political, density, climate,

and vegetation maps.

Define and explain the importance of key geographic terms.

Student Directed Learning Activity:

Students will make a

geographic glossary with

definitions and pictures of

key terms.

Suggested Vocabulary:

Use the geographical glossary of your

district’s approved texts

Wrap Up:

Geography journals

Possible formative assessments:

Have students break out into pairs and Quiz a partner on glossary
